The story of California Home Builders began in Central California, where Pat Scofield built the company's foundation in land development and semi-custom homes. Those early years were defined by hard work, steady growth, and a commitment to earning trust one project at a time.

As our reputation grew, so did our appetite for more technically demanding work. Our move to San Diego in 2007 was a deliberate step toward the beautiful challenges of the coast, where the terrain, the regulation, and the architectural ambition of the clients demanded a higher level of craft. That's where we found our footing and our practice began to take shape.

As our roots in San Diego deepened, so did the scale and ambition of our work. We built the relationships and reputation that come from doing technically demanding work well: close collaborations with leading architects and designers, a growing network of trusted trade partners to work with consistently, and a process refined through years of experience.

As we’ve grown, we’ve chosen an intentional hands-on, family-led structure. Our team today is made up of dedicated construction professionals, craftsmen, and business leaders, all working together toward a higher standard of home building.

More than three decades of building has sharpened our process, our partnerships, and our sense of the work we're built for. The projects we're most proud of are the ones that have demanded the most; they’re technically complex, architecturally adventurous builds where every detail requires real expertise and real accountability.
